~~~Most of the peonies this year will be coming from State Hill Fruit Farm near Reading, Pa (second to last photo) These plants were started in 1958 (64 years!) and I could feel their deep roots and wisdom while I walked the many 700' rows harvesting. In the last photo is my little patch, about 160 plants in their second year. The longer I continue to disbud (delaying my harvest and profit yet still tending to their many other needs) the stronger root system and ultimately the healthier plant. I did let just few plants flower, see the beautiful Coral Charm! (last photo)
